There are a lot of free SEO tools, yet I gathered together the ninja style optimization ones. These 27 free seo tools are very cool, efficient, easy to use, and I wonder how they could be so awesome and free at the same time…
…anyway, let me list them right away:
Rank SEO tools
1 Keyword Envy – The simplest explanation what that tool does comes from their site tagline:
Track Google search rankings, Bing & Yahoo rankings and traffic. KeywordEnvy is a tool for keyword ranking reports & analytics
2 Rank Checker – the title itself says it all, if you want to know exactly where you are in search, this is the tool for you.
3 Disable personalized search plugin – this plugin is brought to us by Yoast de Valk, the guy who made WordPressSEO which is possibly the best SEO plugin for WP. What the plugin does is depersonalizing search so you could see the results as seen by any other random person.
4 Rank Tracker – here’s what MOZ says about their tool:
Our Rank Tracker tool retrieves search engine rankings for pages and keywords, and stores them for easy comparison later. Moz Analytics subscribers can also track selected rankings over time to see which efforts are making the most impact on rankings, as well as sign up for email notifications to stay updated on changes in rankings.
We’ve built Rank Tracker to support Google, Yahoo!, and Bing, so you can track rankings on all the major search engines
Site Check SEO tools
5 Website Grader – Learn how your website is doing marketingwise… this tool will tell you if you have enough lead captures, blog posts, links, social media votes and basically everything about being awesome online.
6 Web Page Analyzer – Now, that’s one gangsta ass tool. This right here is the heavy artillery. The web page analyzer will tell you everything about your web page – the good, the bad and the ugly, like how well your content is compressed, what’s up with your scripts, images and everything related to optimizing your site the ninja way.
7 Google webmaster tools – this one, you already know.
8 GSite Crawler – Google (and Yahoo!) Sitemap Generator for Windows
Google Sitemaps allows the webmaster to help Google index their pages optimally. The GSiteCrawler will help you generate the best Google Sitemap file for your website. The GSiteCrawler uses different ways to find all the pages in your website and can generate all sorts of files, statistics and more. The sitemaps file format has lately been also adapted by Yahoo! – even MSN/Live.com is pledging it’s support.
9 Google Website Optimizer – The number one tool we use to optimize our sites. You know how Google are – they are simply the best.
10. Pingdom Website Speed Test – “Enter a URL to test the load time of that page, analyze it and find bottlenecks” is what their tagline says and what the tool does.
Keyword Research SEO tools
11 Google Trends – Everything worth writing about… Google trends will display the most searched items for you. Rank for any of them and you are golden.
12 Google Keyword Planner – This is the substitute for the Google adwords tool. It does quite the same only it is better than the google keyword tool.
13 Wordtracker – discover the high-performing keywords in your market, in seconds.
14 Wikipedia article traffic statistics – kinda the same like Google trends, but for Wikipedia… it could have easily been named Wikipedia trends.
Link building SEO tools
15 Xenu’s Link Sleuth – Xenu’s Link Sleuth (TM) checks Web sites for broken links. Link verification is done on “normal” links, images, frames, plug-ins, backgrounds, local image maps, style sheets, scripts and java applets. It displays a continously updated list of URLs which you can sort by different criteria. A report can be produced at any time.
Additional features:
- Simple, no-frills user-interface
- Can re-check broken links (useful for temporary network errors)
- Simple report format, can also be e-mailed
- Executable file smaller than 1MB
- Supports SSL websites (“https:// “)
- Partial testing of ftp, gopher and mail URLs
- Detects and reports redirected URLs
- Site Map
16 Majestic SEO – Find out how all the websites on the internet link to each other with the largest Link Intelligence database on the planet. No other site or search engine gives you as much detailed information about how the fabric of the web is knitted together…
that came right from their site, and you gotta know this is a badass tool when you read a description about it like this one.
17 Link Diagnosis – A firefox plugin that will give you a full report about the links you submit. And by full these guys really mean full – Page rank, speed, scripts etc.
Update:
LInk Diagnosis now redirects to some service I don’t know about. It happens with time, some tools get discontinued. You can check that service, if you want, and see if it’s any good… and let me know if it is.
18 BacklinkWatch – here’s what the tool page says: “Type the URL of your website to get complete detailed information about quality and quantity of backlinks pointing to your website. It will show you “anchor” text, pagerank, total outbound links on that page, and nofollow flag for each of your inbound link available”.
Since online marketing is mostly about backlinking you should definitely use this tool more often. As you see it will tell you pretty much all you need to know about the backlinks pointing to your site.
Analytics SEO tools
Google is the name of the game when it comes to analytics, and search, and… well, they are good at everything.
The tool is free and awesome, but maybe leave it if you are new. There are other things more important in the beginning like getting traffic and leads etc.
Once you get the ball rolling, it’s a must.
To be honest, I still don’t use it. I simply don’t care about the little things.
My bank is my analytics LOL.
20 Woopra – Although woopra is a paid service, they have a free trial.
Plus, I think they also have a free version. Here’s what the tool does:
A behavioral profile for every visitor & customer. No more guessing what customers did on your site or app. Know how engaged each customer is, and exactly what actions they performed – all in real-time
21 Complete
Update:
Complete is also gone.
Firefox SEO plugins
Update:

Some of these stopped, too.

Designed for the highly specialised needs of search engine marketers, this toolbar provides extensive search-related information about a site, all conveniently displayed in one discreet and compact toolbar
24 SEOquake – This simple plugin has so many features you will just be stunned… here’s a picture that will point out some of the features:
Bare in mind these are just a few of the features this tool has… that’s possibly the most awesome free seo Firefox plugin.
