There were times I couldn’t write a sentence under 3 minutes.. no matter how long.
There were times friends called to laugh I hadn’t left spaces after full stops (instead of letting me know I should have).
There were times everybody told me the money making niche was the toughest and it would be impossible to build a blog in it with no money, and now I run one of the most badass internet marketing blogs online…
…with zero guest posting, link building, cross promoting, paid advertising, or any other promotion technique marketers usually do.
How did i do it?
There were 5 things I did, or did not do, to get where I am today… things I’ve been doing my whole life, things I’m still doing and things you can do too if you want to be rich and awesome.
1 Do NOT give a fuck
People said I should build links to rank, I said hell no, others should build my links, and I should become famous… now I have numerous pages on the first page of Google and have built zero links.
People said a lot of things, but I did not give a fuck… you shouldn’t too.
Remember those times before tablets came along?
You know what the ‘smart heads’ told Steve Jobs?
They were like:
“No one will ever buy a device something between a laptop and a phone.”
Well, you know how that turned out. It’s a good thing he didn’t listen.
You know best what is good for you, listen to yourself first, always.
2 Craft your story
My life before registering my first company and becoming rich sucked, then I made a few millions and lost it at 25, again – sucked.
I thought the universe was unfair to me, yet it gave me the best possible present any entrepreneur could ask for – a compelling life story to back my business (most just make them up).
Look, think about why sir Richard Branson, or Steve Jobs, or Elon Musk are so interesting and successful for a second… that’s right – because they all live(d) amazingly and have extraordinary stories.
I still remember the story how Sir Richard Branson’s mom sent him to get water miles away from home when he was little, he got lost and stayed at some strangers’ house until the next morning, which was his first lesson to deal with problems by himself (I think it’s in “How I lost my virginity”, an epic book).
There are a lot of rich people, who are also fun and cool, but they are not as famous, because facts bore, stories sell.
What does that have to do with getting rich?
You might think there is some secret key to riches, but there isn’t.
As a matter of fact, most people think there is, I guess it’s normal.
The difference between rich and poor people is rich people have discipline… which is built with exercising.
That’s it, that’s the key you are looking for.
Losing $500k cash money and my entire business in 2011 wasn’t fun, yet I had the discipline to get off my ass and start again.
It wasn’t brains that helped me, it wasn’t friends, who, by the way, all disappeared (happens when you are down), it was the discipline to get up and push until I fucking kill it, the discipline the sport (I work out a lot) gave me… the discipline I am still building.
4 Enjoy the little things
I know this has become a cliche that no one really understands, but hear me out.
About a month ago friends of mine took me to that pizza pace, I don’t usually eat pizza, yet this time I went for a slice… and that was one happy, happy moment for me, happier than buying my new car, I’s smiling the whole 5 minutes while eating the slice.
Before you think I’m crazy (like most people at the pizza joint), which I am LOL, no other place makes pepperoni pizza like it just came from the Italian oven that originally came up with the recipe.
I myself have been preaching “money is everything” my whole life, cause I really had none growing up and had to do magic to start my first company, but I have to tell you life has become a lot easier since I started enjoying the little things… business has been going a lot easier as well.
It’s all tied together, if you can’t enjoy a slice of pizza, you can’t enjoy bigger things either… which is probably why I never appreciated I became rich so young against all odds.
If you are thankful for what you have, whatever it is, you will have more of whatever it is that you want… you don’t have to believe me, life will teach you, yet the better option is to learn from who have already been taught.
The first step to being rich is being aware of it.
That’s obvious, you think…
…or is it?
let me give you something to think about.
You want to make money, that’s awesome, money is cool… why not sell more then?
More of what?
Create (or buy) something today, whatever it is and put it on Ebay to sell for profit, or maybe write a book and publish on Amazon, or maybe shoot a fun video and publish it on You Tube, or start your blog and make fans that will happily buy from you, do whatever you are good at and sell…
…most people do everything right but selling, because they are afraid to sell. I was at a meeting yesterday (don’t do meetings, but the guy was cool and I wanted to be friendly) and at the end of the meeting the guy was like:
“bla bla bla what do you do?”
Sorry, I just don’t have the time to listen to everything people say, as most times it is common talk.
me: “Internet marketing”
them: “I myself have that other business I’m trying to grow” (said it looking down at the table, waiting for me to ask what it was)
me: “what is it?”
them, very ashamed: “I have that network marketing bla bla bla”
That was why they wanted the meeting.
I was like:
“why are you so ashamed of selling me? don’t be afraid to sell, chin up and don’t waste 30 minutes to finally try to talk about what you are selling… shoot straight man, selling is fun, be proud of offering your product to people”
They lightened up and I think will have a lot better results after that meeting.
But it’s not just them, most people are the same. Selling is, for some reason, considered bad, well, it’s not, it’s awesome… you just have to know how to do it.
