Ever since the last article, I’ve been wanting to write about emotional intelligence.
Just lately people started talking about it, and it’s been totally the key to leadership since…. well, forever (read about it on hbr.org, but the article was dead boring and I don’t want to link to it and ruin your day LOL, I have no idea why people don’t get blogging should be fun before all).
I wrote this article and this one in which I talked about emotions and controlling them (actually I have written a lot more), but they are more ‘how to succeed online’ articles, and I wanted to devote a whole new post to emotional intelligence…
…I’ll try to not make it hbr.org boring LOL, even though it’s more of a philosophical topic.
You know when I learned about emotional intelligence?
When I lost everything in 2011 and got into internet marketing.
Making millions, losing millions and going through all kids of mishaps wasn’t enough to become emotionally intelligent, but internet marketing was, marketing is the industry in which you have to be in total control of emotions (yours and others’), or you will be sold a lot of crap and will not sell anything.
When I got online in 2011 I stumbled onto a sales video, although I did not have any money I found a way to buy the product I was sold and got in this network marketing company.
I’m glad I did up to this day, as there is no better place to learn how to sell than network marketing…
…since these companies are all about selling crap no one actually needs (LOL) like I’ve already told you.
Anyway, I watched the video for two seconds and turned it off, it looked like a major scam, although the guy thought he could make sales videos (I think he still does) LOL.
I had gotten on the affiliate’s list (who was selling the product) though, and on the seventh email I decided to reach out and talk to them.
They convinced me it was an awesome product and since I’m used to not lying, I believed the guy.
I joined, bought some ridiculously expensive training and started following it precisely… with no results.
I quickly noticed marketers (there are exceptions of course, I know you are one) were full of shit, though they sure knew how to sell… the one thing I wasn’t good at.
I wasted a lot of time, and finally realized I had to follow what these people were doing instead of what they were recommending… and things started happening, I also realized I had to be emotionally stable to not fall for all the stories and sales videos and other marketing methods.
(you have the form to your right if you want to learn how to market like me, why not even better?)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you should not buy anything, I’m saying you should buy what you need and control your emotions.
A few moths ago I bought a new car, I bought it for half the price since I did not care, and I showed the seller I did not care.
If I had bought it 4 years ago, I’d have given twice the amount.
Emotional intelligence is not only vital to buy smart, but to sell too.
People buy based on how they feel, if you understand that and learn to control your customers’ emotions (I know it feels evil, but it is what it is, we live in a world marketing is everything), you will sell whatever you want to whoever you want.
I’ll give you another example
When I was in that network marketing deal, I tried to sell my product by being real and logical, I thought a lot of people would get they needed the product (it was actually not that bad) and buy it, yet that wasn’t the case at all.
I started thinking what I was doing wrong, I watched hundreds of sales videos and decided to put up a niche site with a sales video on it talking about nothing LOL, but uplifting people.
The results were ridiculous – people were joining, emailing me to thank me, friending me on Facebook, sharing my posts and all kinds of cool stuff.
I realized no one cared about reality, well, a few did of course, there are exceptions, but most just wanted motivation.
Take a look at Tony Robbins, he sells nothing really and is a millionaire because of his motivational business.
Everybody loves to be uplifted.
Emotional intelligence is everything, people think with their hearts, rarely with their brains.
Let me know if you liked this simple and at the same time extraordinary article and stay AWESOME!
