A few years ago I was like: “what?” when I heard a guy talk about the “sell by not selling” approach…
Back then I had no idea how to sell, although I had fast foods, a security company and a work and travel partner agency prior to starting my online company.
How’s that possible?
Well, the fast foods were all at the right locations, the security company was tied to the most powerful dealer of security systems in my country and the work and travel agency was the first of its kind in my home town…
…so I kinda did not need to know selling at all.
When I started online though it was a whole different story, there is so much competition online you just have to know how to sell… and I’m not talking about the ruthless salesman approach, no, people don’t like to be sold, but they like to buy.
That’s what money is for – to buy stuff, and to tell you the truth (you might not like it at all) people rarely buy what they need nowadays… or I shall say people don’t know what they need, this is all a result of marketing… but that’s another topic.
You have to sell them your product by not selling.
Remember “The Wolf Of Wallstreet” (by the way, if you haven’t watched it yet, you should right away, it’s one of the best movies ever made), the pen pitch? I know I’ll never forget it… It’s neither about your pen being the best on the market, nor about you trying to get people to understand it is an incredible pen…
…it’s about creating urgent need for that pen to sell like crazy.
The more bad people need your pen, the more they would want it, the more pens you would sell.
You’d say there is no need for anything nowadays, but you’d be very wrong… or you might not, whatever, just know you can create urgent need for anything, anytime you want to.
Here’s an example:
You create an info product how to make money online doing SEO.
Even though there are thousands of products out there, you can differentiate by creating a private group on Fb and giving away your product to a selected group of people for limited time… and after that time passes you start selling it.
If your products is cool, people would buy it… they would need it very bad since they already know what it is about, and they would even market it for you.
This is one way of selling by not selling. There are literally tens of thousands of ways to sell by not selling, but even if you manage to become good at just one of them, you’d become a very wealthy person.
Have you noticed most people try and try to push a product and never actually make anything serious?
And the product might even be better than anything out there, but it doesn’t matter, because these people don’t now how to sell by not selling.
Meanwhile shitty products sell like butter due to the fact their creators know how to create urgent need for them.
When I got into selling online, I was the same as those who had awesome products but didn’t know how to sell…
…I though I had the best product and I was sorted. I thought the product would sell itself since it was that awesome, I actually invested a lot of time into several incredibly cool products none of which was a success.
Then I started following people who sold whatever they wanted like it’s a piece of cake… doing everything they were doing although I did not really understand it LOL. I made a ton of sales, and I knew I had to learn more about selling by not selling.
