This SEO advice will be relevant no matter what updates Google makes
The internet runs on search and as long as it does, search engine optimization is, and will always be, the name of the game.
I’m a huge fan of paid marketing as it is fast and easy, yet free search traffic is magic… it converts almost perfectly, and it’s long lasting.
You have to be on the first page, first to third spot, to get lots of traffic that converts though… I’ve realized people who click the rest of the results are not the best, but hey, whatever they are, they are still free search traffic…
…and the second, third and so on pages are mostly visited by people as good as social traffic, most of them are time killers.
I guess you could imagine that since Google are crazy good at recognizing great content.
1 Backlinks
Ya, they still matter, they will always matter and you need lots of them… but not just high PR links, all kinds – directory links, blog links, social links, links from bookmarking sites etc.
Back in the day when I started this blog I built crazy amounts of bookmarking links by hand, because I had no money for fancy software (which is why I’m nuts now LOL), and they pumped the domain’s authority to PR2… I rock page one of Google with no links now, cause I have authority, yet I needed them links in the beginning.
You can’t just get 1,000 high PR links as this will look way too unnatural as it is, mix it up and get all kinds of links to not worry about Google updates whatsoever.
2 Write compelling content
Backlinking crappy articles is like going to the movies to watch some killer film, but ending up watching Cinderella (happened to me once, but I don’t wanna talk about it, you’ll think I’m weird LOL)
Think about what you want to find when you search Google – relevant articles, right?
So does everybody and so do Google, they will not list your article if it is irrelevant even if it has a millions backlinks to it… the time this was possible is long gone, besides why would you want to rank thin articles? They won’t get results even if you manage to get them to the first page for some time.
Write each article as it’d be your last, that’s what I do.
You can rank thin content too, but I don’t think you will keep it on the first page for too long, nor do I think it is worth it.
3 Get social signals
They are not a ranking factor (at least that’s what SEOs say), but they will get you social traffic that will boost your site’s authority.
