Cool, you found the only self development article you will ever need.
I was wondering how to name this article and since I like things simple, I chose the name ‘the battle between you and you’ over ‘the battle between the two minds’ (the latter would have caused a very philosophical post and we don’t want that).
But let me tell you what I mean by that.
We have a conscious and a subconscious minds and they work like this:
Let’s say you want to make $500,000 this year”
conscious mind: “I want to make $500 000 dollars this year, I have to work hard for it, invest and learn a lot, understand?”
unconscious mind: “work hard now (pain), make $500 000 at the end of the year (the good life), got it, let’s roll.”
So far so good, however, most people have a battle going on between the two minds mainly because of crappy beliefs (and one more reason you will read about in one of the following paragraphs), which is why they struggle. The really bad thing is a few of those people are actually aware of that. They work their asses off, yet they stay poor because of that battle between the two minds.
The battle goes like this:
conscious mind: “I want to make $500 000 dollars this year, I have to work hard for it, invest and learn a lot, understand?”
unconscious mind: “Yeah right, you can not make that much money because you were told so when you were young, remember?” or “you can not make that much money because you are not that good at what you do” or “money is the root of all evil” etc.
Broken beliefs occur when the unconscious mind gets programmed wrong. While growing up we absorb all the information coming from our social environment (friends, family, TV etc). At early ages we do not have the ability to segment the good from the bad, it’s just how it is… we gain information how the world operates, and based on it we form our beliefs.
If you were told money was evil, your unconscious mind would always stop you from making it… if you were told you weren’t that smart, your subconscious mind would always prevent you from doing things that need extraordinary thinking. This sucks, I know…
There are good and bad news though:
bad news: most people never realize their subconscious mind rules them and makes decisions ahead of them based on how it was programmed, because consciously we don’t know the dialog between the two minds exist.
good news: beliefs can be corrected!
Broken beliefs are not the only problem that cause a battle between you and you…
…the battle can be even more fearsome after you try for some time with no results. The unconscious mind’s work is to protect you from pain and give you pleasure.
What happens is this:
The unconscious mind agrees with delayed gratification (you know, work hard now and make $500 000 later), yet after you try for a bout a year (maybe less, maybe more) with little results (making money takes some time, effort and persistence) it says:
“this is not worth it, been doing this with no results, you need to stop now”
After that you wind up watching TV, eating popcorn instead of working (just an example to draw a better picture)… and you don’t make that much money as you wished. Although the conscious mind understands work is needed, the unconscious wants to deliver pleasure and stops you from moving on.
This happens with almost everybody… they try for a while and then quit, they start another thing and they quit again, and so on and so on….
There are again good news and bad news:
bad news: people who are used to ‘easy’ will not make it, they will go for a job instead of pushing until they get what they want.
good news: This obstacle can be beaten by having fun and celebrating all the little things that happen in your life. Once you achieve a goal (whatever it is), celebrate it… have fun, then the unconscious mind will know its job was done right and will not block further efforts to get to your bigger goal.
It’s not easy to make this matter that simple to understand, however I did my best to make it as simple as possible, I hope you got it and will achieve all your goals.
Here’s your action plan for achieving those goals:
– replace all wrong beliefs: You might say: “Yeah right, like its that easy”, you should know it is not easy, yet once you start doing it, you will be amazed what you could achieve. Here’s how to replace a broken belief:
1 Analyze what it is and how long it has been causing problems
2 delete it and replace it with a positive substitute
-stop absorbing the wrong information. To achieve that just be extremely selective what and who you listen to. It’s a good idea to follow rich people if you want to be such.
– take out the trash – clear your mind right now. You don’t need trash up there, so clean everything.
– start some sport (if you haven’t yet). Nothing can discipline you better than sports. You need to learn how to never give up, cause the road to riches is not easy and you will have to push hard.
– Have fun everyday no matter what.
That’s it, Let me know if you liked this article… and how your battle went 🙂
