Are you ready to turn your tweets into magic?
The good news is I’m not exaggerating at all, the twitter cards have the power to transform your twitter marketing entirely.
Heard of twitter cards?
I just started using them, I knew about them but did not have the time to code them to my tweets… maybe code is a scary word to use, don’t worry, you don’t have to write a single line of code, I will tell you how to set them up via the WP SEO by Yoast plugin (it’s pretty much the same with any other plugin though).
If you want to code them to a non WP site, then Twitter’s documentation will be everything you need to set them up in a few minutes, I also have an example how easy it is at the end of this article, so don’t worry, I got you… and with a plugin you’ll be good to go in less then a few minutes.
A WP user?
Cool, read on.
What are twitter cards?
Simply said, twitter cards are attachments to your tweets that allow people to have these rich media experiences that go far beyond a 140-character written message right within Twitter.
What do I mean?
I believe several images will explain it all, here they are:
Summary Twitter Card – Excellent for blogs
how it looks after you hit view summary
Photo Twitter Card
Video Twitter Card
There are a few more options like lead generation cards, or product download cards, yet I believe you get the idea how they work.
…if you wanna check them out though, go through Twitter’s documentation, as I want to show you how to set everything up in 5 minutes (don’t count now, it might be a bit more, or less LOL).
Setting up the lead generation cards and the website cards is pretty easy, you just have to go to the Twiiter Ads Dashboard and make them.
For the other types, do the following:
1 Install WP seo by Yoast – it also helps out with Open Graph
2 Head to Social -> Twitter and then check ‘add Twitter card meta data’, fill your Twitter user name and choose between summary and summary with image like this:
3 Hit save
4 Head to twitter card validator and insert your URL (any URL will do)
5 an option to whitelist your domain will show, do it.
6 Once you get approved (it happens almost instantly), every page on your blog will be card-ified.
The Yoast plugin gives only two options though, yet once you whitelist your domain you can set up any type of card you want in seconds.
This is the easiest way to do it and once you whitelist your domain, it automatically works for any subdomains you have (I know you probably know this, just wanted to cover it too)
Not a WP user?
Here’s what to do and the example:
Add the appropriate meta tags for the card of your choice onto your site. Twitter offers some nice documentation on how to do this, with the code all set for you to plug your information into. Here’s a sample of their code for an App Card:
That’s it, your tweets should already look awesome and get you 123% more traffic and leads.
