“Jealousy marketing”?
oh yeah, everybody does it… pretty sure you do it too, you just don’t realize it, or maybe you do.
What is jealousy marketing?
Possibly the most powerful marketing approach there is. Why do you think marketers post pics of their laptops, cars, mansions (most times rented), traveling experiences and whatever they can get their hands on to show off?
Yep, to make you think:
Well, if this weird looking funny talking silly can get rich online, I can too.
And this is when you buy stuff.
I’m not saying it’s bad, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that lately, in the material world we live in, it’s been the ONLY way to get people to follow you, like you and buy from you…
…which is kinda sad, really.
I’m not gonna talk about the beer commercials, where it’s always a hot crappy day and all the sudden, after opening a cold Coors, everything changes instantly, hot chicks pop up from everywhere and life becomes swell…
…and all the sudden you want to open a beer and be like that commercial guy.
I’m gonna talk about Instagram, cause this app is all about the jealousy marketing.
By the way, I decided to write this article after reading a well known marketer’s attempt to become popular on Instagram by paying hot model chicks to post pics holding signs with his name. He spent about $60k, got some followers, got eyeballs, got some people pissed off too (which is inevitable with jealousy marketing), but at the end he became popular on IG.
To be honest, I’ve never liked IG that much, cause I don’t have the time to browse people’s food, jets, cars douchey pics… I personally think there are no serious entrepreneurs there, just some wannabe marketers and kids trying to see boobs LOL (sorry if you love instagram, there are always exceptions and I know you are not among the mentioned by me)…
…but Instagram is popular, it gets more popular by the day, people love it, just noticed even those of my friends who never use social media opened accounts there, which tells me the world is all about the jealousy marketing now.
Facebook is all about the jealousy marketing too.
People post their best photos, how much money they make, vacation pics, wedding pics… all because they want (consciously or subconsciously) others to be jealous….
…because people want others to buy whatever they sell. Everybody sells something nowadays.
I myself post images on FB after, or while working out (I workout a lot) and every time I post an image, I get a call from someone, you know, to get a cup of coffee or whatever. First I thought It was just a coincidence, but it turned out it wasn’t, whenever people see something they don’t have, they instantly want to have it even if it’s not that important to them.
It’s a weird world we live in, I tell ya, but we have to stick to what works if we want to be financially independent, cause it has come to a point money is all that matters. Jealousy marketing is all you need to master if you want people to buy from you.
It’s also the only thing that will make you popular on social media… and on the internet in general.
Take a look at this gal: http://www.marieforleo.com/about/, I accidently found her searching You Tube, she has all those pics of her with Oprah, Richard Branson and some others I don’t know that well. But why? she’s already rich and famous…
…well maybe she is, maybe not, she sure does know how to make people jealous of her though. Her site is very popular and possibly all women and some men want to be just like her… and I’m sure they buy everything she has to offer.
Oh, I almost forgot about a short story I wanted to tell you
I used to have this friend, he was all about the jealousy marketing. He just needed to show off to impress people around him…
…and it worked, everybody still thinks he’s the master of the universe and lives the lifestyle, and he actually is nothing like that, he’s just a regular guy who makes some money (not a lot) online.
But he’s smart, he knows jealousy marketing and people buy whatever he sells, at least those around him do. He doesn’t have friends though, only people wanting to be like him… well, actually wanting to be like what he pretends to be, which happens when you only want to show off.
Just wanted to tell you this story to show you the raw power of jealousy marketing, and of course its downsides if you take it too far.
If you manage to understand this article right you will have the power to sell whatever you want, and it’s only up to you if you will use this power for good. 🙂
What do you think about jealousy marketing? Does it beat peanut butter on pancakes? Or you’ll stick to the pancakes? LOL
