Yesterday I couldn’t sleep, I was like:
“ok, let’s browse the internet and see what’s what”
Went to a well known blog, entered my email to receive what was supposed to be the ultimate guide to marketing my business, received a 5k word rant how vital social signals were and some more useless stuff (not that I expected something better), read 20 blog posts that said kinda the same thing and just before going to bed I received a comment that went something like this:
“don’t you think you are selling yourself too much?”
…and then right before I got mad at myself for wasting the only thing money can’t buy – time, I was like:
“this is a sign I have to tell my friends why most blogs make shit and how to stand out”
I browse the internet a lot, but rarely read blogs, have read it all… I know how it sounds, but you will get me when you’ve been around for quite a while, and it was totally a sign I had to write this article.
The guy who left that comment is not the only one afraid of selling.
While I was at one of those blogs reading an article how we had to build relationships, which by the way was pretty decent, I noticed the guy was trying so hard to be friends with people (you know, to get traffic, leads, links etc) they forgot to sell.
And since I know another one of these famous blogs (will save the name) only makes 700 bucks a month with 50 times my traffic, I can tell you most bloggers are scared of selling, they do everything right except monetization.
This is why I said you shouldn’t care about traffic but about selling.
I know you don’t want to be recognized as “the ruthless salesman”, but you have to sell or you will not make money and will start writing angry articles, saying:
“god, I deserve so much more, how’s that salesman who started this (illegal) scheme better than me?”
That blog that makes 700 a month is like that, you can see the author is not satisfied with their results from a thousand miles, they just have to learn how to sell.
If you don’t like what you are reading, it’s fine, but you should most likely do something else.
If you want to build a blog that sells, here’s how:
Things not to do
1 Read thin content that teaches to comment for traffic
Commenting is for suckers, you need to spend your time on things that produce results that matter, time is valuable, it goes fast and the more you struggle, the bigger the chance to get sick and tired and start publishing dumb, emotionally unstable stuff.
Comment for commenting, not for traffic
SEO is very expensive and time consuming, you will optimize when you are rich, it will kill you if you have no money, read this article to see how Google ranks websites:
3 Forum signature marketing
…or any kind of forum activities, forums are full of sad people who don’t know how to sell, they will try to act wise and slip you some WSO, that’s all they are good for.
You can use forums as a platform to sell your product, since they have tons of traffic, but commenting and trying to build something there is sad… plus the misleading information can be quite damaging.
4 Stuff yourself with information
The internet is very simple, just like everything else, don’t make it hard and complicated with information you don’t need, and believe me, that “20 tools for better productivity” article will not help you make money, it might replace FB for a while, but you probably don’t need any of those.
Read this to see what you need:
Things to do:
You can see how I write my articles, I publish information people charge for, you can imagine what my book will be like.
If you are serious about your business you must read it, yes, I’m selling myself right now (and no, it’s not too much LOL), but I’m also trying to help you, don’t think I don’t know you…
look, business is all the same… for me, for you, for everybody, it works like this:
– you struggle for a while to learn your lessons
– you try to make it for free, but it just doesn’t work
– you understand you have to invest
– you spend money on well marketed software that becomes obsolete in a week
– you find the right information (people) and kill the game
You can jump straight to number five if you want to, believe me, struggling is not fun, neither is trying to make it for free, I’ve done both and wasted years… jump straight to five, here:
I don’t care if you forget to thank me LOL, I care about you though, I want you to make it happen big time.
2 Sell yourself as much as you can and don’t be afraid to do it
3 Find money
This is a big one, you have to have money, at least some or it might take you years to make something worth it… no, I don’t want to lie to you, you just can’t make it for free.
I’m gonna wrap it up here, you know I always end my articles kinda unfinished to get your email LOL, so enter your email in the form down below if you want more cool stuff like this.
